What is a Green Smart House?

GreenSmart is environmentally responsible housing. GreenSmart designed homes  showcase environmentally sustainable housing design. The main goals of  a Green Smart House are:

  • improved energy efficiency of the home
  • improved water efficiency of the home
  • to enable home owners to waste less and recycle more and
  • to reduce the waste generated from the building process.

Some of the benefits of a GreenSmart home include lower energy and water bills, a warmer house in winter, a cooler house in summer and better soil for beautiful gardens, as more than 50% of the waste from the building process has been recycled.

Through the Housing Industry Association’s Partnership Advancing the Housing Environment (PATHE) national environment initiative, the GreenSmart Training and Accreditation has been launched in all States.

GreenSmart ® is an HIA registered brand for sustainable development in the building industry and it is now an icon of sustainability in both the building industry and with Australia’s home-buying public.

GreenSmart will provide Australia’s homebuilders with environmental skills. Upon the successful completion of the course, homebuilders are accredited as “GreenSmart Professionals”, which will qualify their customers for Australia’s first GreenSmart Home Loan.

Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme

The Queensland Government has introduced a solar hot water rebate scheme. The rebates are for people installing a solar hot water system at their principle place of residence.

You can get up to $750 for solar hot water systems (dependent upon efficiency).

Water Rebates

Some Local Councils, offer rebates on water tanks, AAA-rated showerheads, swimming pool covers, water flow regulators and AAAA-rated washing machines.
